{"id":10422,"date":"2019-09-30T08:42:41","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T08:42:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=10422"},"modified":"2019-10-26T17:54:47","modified_gmt":"2019-10-26T17:54:47","slug":"bentua-now-a-coup-weapon-in-ghana-mahama-mocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2019\/09\/30\/bentua-now-a-coup-weapon-in-ghana-mahama-mocks\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Bentua\u2019 now a coup weapon in Ghana?  \u2013 Mahama mocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Mahama has joined the many persons who have questioned the plausibility of\u00a0government\u2019s announcement of an attempted\u00a0coup\u00a0in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the 13<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Residential Congress of the National Health Students Association\u00a0at Korle-bu on Thursday, he led his audience in a laughing expedition.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mahama\u00a0claimed\u00a0that the supposed weapons used to overthrow the government and subsequent social media commentary shows that Ghanaians still have\u00a0a great sense of humour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was this challenge going on of people showing possible weapons that can be used in a coup d\u2019etat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was this one that was very intriguing because this was the wooden spatula that is used to stir \u2018banku\u2019 popularly called \u2018Bankuta\u2019\u2026.and I said well, possibly; that can be used to hit the guy at wherever you are\u00a0going to attack, he may fall unconscious,\u201d he mocked.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent statement, the government said a joint security operation has led to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from locations in Accra and Kpone-Bawaleshie in Dodowa.<\/p>\n<p>The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that the operation was to neutralise an elaborate plot targeted at the Presidency, and with the ultimate aim of destabilising the country.<\/p>\n<p>The arrest and ongoing prosecution of a medical doctor, Frederick Yao Mac-Palm and his accomplices Dornyah \u201cEzor\u201d Kafui (a local weapon manufacturer) and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu (aka BB or ADC) a freight manager has led to trivialisation of the operation by the public.<\/p>\n<p>The public has cast doubt on the possibility of a medical doctor using basic weapons such as kitchen knives and locally manufactured guns including bow and arrow to destabilise a country like Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in a lighthearted manner about the development, former President Mahama said that he never knew that, even \u201cbentua\u201d [anema]\u00a0can be used as a weapon in a coup plot.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the following video for the full submission of the former president.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FAsempa94.7FM%2Fvideos%2F460430091224725%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"650\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Mahama has joined the many persons who have questioned the plausibility of\u00a0government\u2019s announcement of an attempted\u00a0coup\u00a0in Ghana.
