The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako Atta, has said he will soon introduce a performance management policy to punish contractors for incomplete or shabby work.<\/p>\n
The move, he explained, would be to ensure a more stringent selection, certification and supervision process to weed out self-styled unprofessional contractors from the system.<\/p>\n
The Roads Minister revealed this on Adom FM\u2019s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Monday after heavy downpour in Accra over the weekend exposed the shoddy work done by some contractors.<\/p>\n
The road at Pokuase ACP junction, for example, was flooded Sunday evening causing huge traffic jam.<\/p>\n
Motorists had to spend more than five hours before they could navigate their way through the flood waters to their respective homes.<\/p>\n
Reacting to this unfortunate incident, the Minister blamed the contractor for doing a bad job.<\/p>\n
Many roads across the country are damaged beyond repairs during the rainy season due to the shoddy jobs done by contractors under successive governments.<\/p>\n
The only way out, he stressed, is to introduce rigid guidelines and also ensure that the incidence of rampant cost overruns in the road sector would be completely avoided.<\/p>\n
He was confident that the guidelines would ensure strict supervision and monitoring of road projects in the country.<\/p>\n
