An Oxford College has launched an investigation after a porter allegedly asked a black graduate if he used to rob the place.<\/p>\n
The former student returned to St John’s College on Tuesday\u00a0to look around his student home after graduating.<\/p>\n
But upon arriving, he claims a porter asked him if he used to ‘clean the windows’ or rob the College.<\/p>\n

Upon arriving at the College, the former student claims a porter asked him if he used to ‘clean the windows’ or rob the College (pictured, a tweet he put out after the alleged incident)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
‘Ey I went to my old college in Oxford yesterday to look round again,’ the student wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n
‘At the door I explained to the porter that I used to go there & he replied “What did you do, clean the windows? Rob it?”‘<\/p>\n
He complained to St John’s prompting the College, which was founded in 1955, to launch an investigation.<\/p>\n
It said in a statement to The Daily Telegraph\u00a0that it was ‘committed to ensuring the welfare and well-being of a diverse college community where there is no place for discrimination of any kind’.<\/p>\n
It added: ‘We are aware of a Twitter post about discriminatory language reportedly used by a member of staff towards a visitor. We are investigating this incident as a matter of urgency and will take action as appropriate.’<\/p>\n
Dozens have commented on the student’s post, which has now been shared more than 350 times.<\/p>\n

Another former student, Rosie, said: ‘Am so sorry you went through this! Congrats on getting through Oxford btw, you’re clearly an amazingly talented person and deserve so much better than this. I hope you get at least a proper apology.’<\/p>\n
While former student Mia Farraday said: ‘Well this is legitimately awful. Sorry you went through that. It\u2019s disgusting.<\/p>\n
‘I\u2019m shocked and saddened as perhaps naively I\u2019d have thought no porter would have dared (let alone harboured such ghastly racist thoughts) based on my experiences when I was up. What college?’<\/p>\n
And Adam Gripton said: ‘Disgusting. Sorry you experienced this, Oxford really should be doing better than this.’<\/p>\n
In 2017, a race row erupted at Oxford after college officials sent out an alert about a black intruder \u2013 who turned out to be a visiting former university student.<\/p>\n
Oluwafemi Nylander, 22, accused the university of institutional racism after his photograph was sent out to hundreds of undergraduates in a security alert.<\/p>\n
He said he had been on the grounds of Harris Manchester College picking up a key from a friend’s office when he was captured by security cameras.<\/p>\n
A CCTV image was then circulated to all students and staff at the college, who were warned to be \u2018vigilant\u2019 about an \u2018unauthorised person\u2019 as his \u2018intentions\u2019 were unclear.<\/p>\n
