{"id":14499,"date":"2019-11-08T20:51:27","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T20:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=14499"},"modified":"2019-11-08T20:51:27","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T20:51:27","slug":"hundreds-pour-out-onto-western-region-streets-to-protest-bad-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2019\/11\/08\/hundreds-pour-out-onto-western-region-streets-to-protest-bad-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds pour out onto Western Region streets to protest bad roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scores of cocoa farmers and traditional leaders at Samreboi and its adjoining communities in the Amenfi West district of the Western Region have poured onto the streets to protest poor roads.<\/p>\n<p>Clad in red armbands and attire, the residents burned car tyres, chanted war songs and blocked the main Samreboi-Prestea road, leaving several commuters stranded<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe demonstrators who spoke to <b>Joy News<\/b> had one clear message for the government: \u2018no roads no vote,\u2019\u201d reports <b>Joy News<\/b>&#8216; Western Region Correspondent Ina-Thalia Quansah.<\/p>\n<p>The Western Region has been Ghana&#8217;s lead cocoa producer since 1984 but roads leading to the cocoa farms are generally bad.<\/p>\n<p>At least 14 per cent of Ghana&#8217;s cocoa cash comes from the Western Region and farmers say the government must do more to fix deplorable roads.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QS8hh_x4D4c\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Residents of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region recently<b> embarked on a demonstration over deplorable roads in the capital.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Agitated residents hit the streets on Wednesday to petition the Region\u2019s Minister, Paulina Patience Abayage, over their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, as President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commenced his two-day tour of\u00a0the Volta Region, some activists wanted\u00a0<b>to hear him address the nature of the state of their\u00a0roads.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scores of cocoa farmers and traditional leaders at Samreboi and its adjoining communities in the Amenfi West district of the Western Region have poured onto the streets to protest poor roads.
