{"id":18174,"date":"2020-01-02T14:53:07","date_gmt":"2020-01-02T14:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=18174"},"modified":"2020-01-02T14:53:07","modified_gmt":"2020-01-02T14:53:07","slug":"diplomatic-row-looms-as-ghana-evicts-nigeria-high-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2020\/01\/02\/diplomatic-row-looms-as-ghana-evicts-nigeria-high-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"Diplomatic row looms as Ghana evicts Nigeria High Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nsemgh.com<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18175\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/gn-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/gn-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/gn-150x92.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/gn.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A diplomatic row is brewing between Nigeria and Ghana as the Nigeria High Commission is being forcefully evicted from its diplomatic property in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>The property located at No.10 Barnes Road, Accra, has been reallocated to Amaco Microfinance since August 26, 2019 by Ghana\u2019s Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources with the consent of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement by Nigeria High Commissioner to Ghana, Olufemi Michael Abikoye, dated 31st December 2019, a terse letter dated 27th December 2019, was received from Solicitors acting on behalf of Amaco Microfinance Company Limited, Accra, \u201cgiving instructions for the High Commission to vacate its diplomatic property at No.10 Barnes Road, Accra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe letter further stressed that; failure to comply within stipulated time will lead to depositing the Mission\u2019s belongings at the nearest Accra police station.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Giving the latest update on the property, Amb Abikoye said \u201cas at 31st December 2019, the property has been broken into by the company and is being ransacked with the likelihood of being effectively occupied.\u201d<br \/>\nThe High Commissioner said the letter is coming following the continuous violation of the diplomatic property and a formal notification that it has been reallocated to the Microfinance.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that Nigerian Government failed to renew the property following expiration thus, \u201cthe property reverted to the state in compliance with Article 258 of Ghana\u2019s 1992 Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Amb Abikoye expressed surprise that the reallocation was done \u201dwithout recourse to the High Commission\u201d despite having requested severally for \u201ca mutual resolution of the matter, affirming that Nigerian Government is examining the situation and that an appropriate directive was being awaited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, enjoined the Federal Government to convey appropriate response to the Ghanaian leadership as regards the reallocation and request for vacation of diplomatic property.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: citinewsroom.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nsemgh.com A diplomatic row is brewing between Nigeria and Ghana as the Nigeria High Commission is being forcefully evicted from its diplomatic property in Accra.
