China cannot turn a blind eye to Russia&#8217;s violation of international law,&#8221; European Council President Charles Michel told a news briefing with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after the first EU-China summit since Dec. 30, 2020.<\/p>\n<div class=\"spacing-container__container__2g5QT spacing-container__max-width__zScFd\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot__container__FEnoz\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot__inner__2u45U\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__OOj6H\" data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">&#8220;Any attempts to circumvent sanctions or provide aid to Russia would prolong the war,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__OOj6H\" data-testid=\"paragraph-5\">China is forging closer energy, trade and security ties with Moscow, positioning itself as a global force that can stand up to the United States. Several weeks before the Feb. 24 invasion, China and Russia declared a &#8220;no-limits&#8221; strategic partnership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__OOj6H\" data-testid=\"paragraph-6\">Li told the EU leaders that China has always sought peace and promoted negotiations and is willing to continue to play a constructive role with the international community, state broadcaster CCTV reported. CCTV also reported Xi&#8217;s comments on an independent EU policy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"spacing-container__container__2g5QT spacing-container__max-width__zScFd\">\n<div
