Yes, I mean that was the discussion we had the last time when Parliament was about going on recess and all the other issues that came up,\u201d he told Blessed Sogah on\u00a0The Pulse, Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to happenings in the ongoing constituency election, Nana Dubin Kwapong alleged that the names of about 50 percent of supporters of Sarah Adwoa Safo have been expunged from the current album being used for the elections.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, Nana Dubin Kwapong, who currently represents the MP on the Election Committee for Dome-Kwabenya said supporters of the MP have since withdrawn from the ongoing elections.<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe have actually sent an official communication to the region, to the national party that we have withdrawn from the election. Because in making our case, the region, we have been there for a week, nobody is there to listen to us because anybody who goes to the Regional Chairman comes back and then it is like there seems to be nothing they can do. You don\u2019t joke with such a candidate\u2026I am averting the minds of the party leadership to the fact that the path they have taken could affect the party, come 2024,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sarah Adwoa Safo and two other MPs have been referred to the Privileges Committee for their continuous absence from Parliament.<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article1\"><\/div>\n<p>The other two; Ayawaso Central MP, Henry Quartey and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong are all from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side of the House.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, the legislators have breached the 15-day absence rule, hence his decision to refer them to the Privileges Committee for the necessary actions to be taken.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Alban Bagbin explained that based on the relevant provisions of the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament, the named NPP lawmakers are guilty of the absenteeism threshold for Members of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have accordingly come to the irresistible conclusion that a Member who absents himself or herself from 15 sitting days of Parliament in a particular meeting, without the permission in writing of the Speaker, falls squarely within the ambit of Article 97, clause 1(c) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 16(1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament\u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The absentee Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo is likely to be seen in Parliament when Parliament resumes from recess.
