{"id":21962,"date":"2022-05-17T17:28:32","date_gmt":"2022-05-17T17:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=21962"},"modified":"2026-07-05T15:29:04","modified_gmt":"2026-07-05T15:29:04","slug":"achimota-forest-has-not-will-not-been-sold-jinapor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2022\/05\/17\/achimota-forest-has-not-will-not-been-sold-jinapor\/","title":{"rendered":"Achimota Forest has not, will not been sold \u2013 Jinapor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Achimota Forest in Accra has not \u2018been sold and will not be sold\u2019,\u00a0 Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor has said.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after reports suggesting the possible reclassification of the forest for commercial development by government hit social media.<\/p>\n<div class=\"td-a-rec td-a-rec-id-content_inlineright  tdi_2 td_block_template_5\"><\/div>\n<p>The Instrument gazetted on behalf of President Akufo-Addo by the Lands Minister Samuel Abdulai Jinapor stipulated that effective May 1, 2022, the land on which the Forest is located shall cease to be a forest reserve, pursuant to Section 19 of the Forest Act, 1927 (CAP. 157).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe District Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority with jurisdiction over the land specified in the schedule, shall, within three months after the coming into force of this instrument, prepare for the approval of the Minister [of Lands], a master plan for the development of the land specified in the schedule,\u201d the document noted.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-409024\" src=\"https:\/\/starrfm.com.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r-2-685x1024.jpeg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/starrfm.com.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r-2-685x1024.jpeg 685w, https:\/\/starrfm.com.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r-2-201x300.jpeg 201w, https:\/\/starrfm.com.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r-2-696x1040.jpeg 696w, https:\/\/starrfm.com.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r-2-281x420.jpeg 281w, https:\/\/starrfm.com.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r-2.jpeg 747w\" alt=\"\" width=\"685\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The development has sparked outrage on social media with some Ghanaians accusing government of recklessness.<\/p>\n<p>Renowned journalist Manasseh wrote on twitter \u201cAchimota Forest too? Do some people want to own that too? Is that why they killed Samuel Afari Dartey\u2019s dream for the forest?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have just read with sadness Executive Instrument 144, degazetting portions of the Achimota Forest, the only remaining green belt in Ghana\u2019s capital city. By the EI, approximately a quarter of the forest has been chipped away, and will soon be used for other purposes other than the forest services it was previously providing.
