It comes as Royal Mail reported an eight percent rise in underlying operating profits to \u00a3758 million for the year to the end of March.<\/p>\n
On a reported basis, pre-tax profits fell 8.8 percent to \u00a3662 million.<\/p>\n
The organisation said it was at a \u201ccrossroads\u201d in its overhaul as parcel delivery becomes ever more important.<\/p>\n
It is telling customers to expect prices to rise as the group contends with higher wage demands, surging energy and fuel costs.<\/p>\n
Simon Thompson, chief executive of Royal Mail, said: \u201cAs we emerge from the pandemic, the need to accelerate the transformation of our business, particularly in delivery, has become more urgent.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur future is as a parcels business, so we need to adapt old ways of working designed for letters and do it much more quickly to a world increasingly dominated by parcels.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cOur focus now is to work at pace with our people and our trade unions to reinvent this British icon for the next generations, so that we can give our customers what they want, grow our business sustainably and deliver long-term job security for our great team.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have no time to waste.\u201d<\/p>\n
In March, the service hiked the price of a first-class stamp by 10p to 95p due to declining letter volumes and rising costs due to inflation.<\/p>\n
Nick Landon, the group\u2019s chief commercial officer, said Royal Mail understood many companies and households were \u201cfinding it hard in the current economic environment\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He added: \u201cWe will always keep our prices as affordable as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The price of a first class stamp has risen by 10 pence, which means people will have to spend 95 pence to send a letter.<\/p>\n
Second class stamps have also increased, this time by two pence to 68 pence in total.<\/p>\n
