{"id":22335,"date":"2022-05-24T06:49:19","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T06:49:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=22335"},"modified":"2022-05-24T06:49:19","modified_gmt":"2022-05-24T06:49:19","slug":"ghanas-debt-stock-hits-%c2%a2391-9bn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2022\/05\/24\/ghanas-debt-stock-hits-%c2%a2391-9bn\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana\u2019s debt stock hits \u00a2391.9bn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana\u2019s total debt stock has hit GH\u00a2391.9 billion, data from the Bank of Ghana indicate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to the central bank, the country\u2019s debt stock stood at US$ 55.1 billion as of March 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Even though it dropped by $3 billion in the first quarter of 2022 from $58.4 billion in January to $55.1 billion in March, it increased in cedi terms due to the depreciation of the currency.<\/p>\n<p>The cedi increment was GH\u00a2 40 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The total debt stock was GH\u00a2351.7 billion in January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The increase in the debt stock in cedis increases Ghana\u2019s debt to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio to 78%.<\/p>\n<p>Year-on-year, from March 2021 to March 2022, the debt stock rose by about 30% from GH\u00a2304.6 billion to GH\u00a2391.9 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The domestic component of debt rose by GH\u00a28 billion from GH\u00a2 181.9 billion in January to GH\u00a2 189.9 billion in March, which represents about 38% of the projected GDP for 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The external component of the debt, increased significantly by about GH\u00a2 32 billion in the first 3 months of 2022, from GH\u00a2169.8 billion in January to GH\u00a2201.9 billion in March.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana\u2019s total debt stock has hit GH\u00a2391.9 billion, data from the Bank of Ghana indicate. &nbsp; According to the central bank, the country\u2019s debt stock stood at US$ 55.1 billion as of March 2022.
