{"id":22768,"date":"2022-06-01T08:10:20","date_gmt":"2022-06-01T08:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=22768"},"modified":"2022-06-01T08:10:20","modified_gmt":"2022-06-01T08:10:20","slug":"my-vormawor-tweet-wasnt-looking-for-an-igp-response-at-all-uk-high-commissioner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2022\/06\/01\/my-vormawor-tweet-wasnt-looking-for-an-igp-response-at-all-uk-high-commissioner\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;My Vormawor tweet wasn&#8217;t looking for an IGP response at all&#8217; \u2013 UK High Commissioner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UK High Commissioner Harriet Thompson has said her tweet on Oliver Barker-Vormawor\u2019s last arrest for a traffic offence was not intended, in any way to elicit a response from Ghana\u2019s Inspector General of Police.<\/p>\n<p>Dr George Akuffo Dampare wrote to the British High Commissioner describing her recent \u2018I\u2019ll be interested to see where this goes\u2019 comment on the arrest of #FixTheCountry Movement convener, as \u201cuninformed, biased, misguided and unwarranted\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>After Mr Barker-Vormawor was arrested in mid-May this year for the alleged traffic offence, the UK envoy tweeted on 17 May: \u201cOliver Barker Vormawor, the convener of #FixTheCountry Movement, arrested again, I understand, for a motoring offence on his way to court. I\u2019ll be interested to see where this goes\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrdinarily, the Ghana Police Service would not have responded to comments such as yours, obviously made from either a biased or uninformed position\u201d, the police noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever\u201d, it continued, \u201cWe have learnt from a previous painful experience that it has not been helpful to ignore such misguided, unwarranted, and biased comments intended to tarnish the reputation of the Ghana Police Service and that of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The police also accused the UK envoy of interfering in Ghana\u2019s internal affairs with her tweet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is more, we consider your tweet as a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961 which enjoins diplomatic missions not to interfere in the internal affairs of their host country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the IGP\u2019s response, however, Ms Thompson said: \u201cIt is clear from the response that it has not been received the way it was intended\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She told Accra-based GHOne TV that her tweet \u201cwasn\u2019t after a response from the IGP at all\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I comment on social media, I comment on all sorts of things in which I\u2019m interested, I suppose to show people a bit about me, to try to open up about what it means to be a High Commissioner in a country like Ghana; what it is, not just to be me as a High Commissioner but also, me, as a person, so, I\u2019ll tweet about the places in Ghana I\u2019ve been and found beautiful or interesting, the people I\u2019ve met and so on, so, I don\u2019t necessarily look for any response\u201d, she explained.<br \/>\nsource:classfm<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UK High Commissioner Harriet Thompson has said her tweet on Oliver Barker-Vormawor\u2019s last arrest for a traffic offence was not intended, in any way to elicit a response from Ghana\u2019s Inspector General of Police.
