Director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs & Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has defended the content of the Ghana Police Service\u2019s letter to the British High Commissioner.<\/p>\n

Prof Kwesi Aning says the letter was well written and captured the grievances of the Police Administration.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the host of JoySMS<\/strong> on Wednesday, June 1, he said the letter is \u201ca good historical document that others must take a cue from\u201d.<\/p>\n

As a result, Prof. Aning, commended the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for taking such a bold step.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IGP\u2019s letter to the British High Commissioner was well done and straight to the point, raising his concerns about the way the police is handling a particular issue that tangentially also affects other issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ghana Police Service on Tuesday replied the British High Commissioner, Harriet Thompson\u2019s comments in relation to the arrest of the convener of the FixTheCountry Movement.<\/p>\n

Madam Harriet Thompson, in a Tweet on Tuesday, May 17, said she looks forward to seeing how the arrest of the convener of the FixTheCountry Movement will turn out.<\/p>\n

\u201cOliver Barker Vormawor, the convener of\u00a0#FixTheCountry\u00a0Movement, arrested again, I understand, for a motoring offense on his way to court. I\u2019ll be interested to see where this goes\u2026,\u201d the tweet said.<\/p>\n

However, the Police in a letter signed by the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to Madam Harriet Thompson said her tweet was from either a \u201cbiased or uninformed position.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOrdinarily, the Ghana Police Service would not have responded to comments such as yours, obviously made from either a biased or uninformed position.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, we have learnt from a previous painful experience that it has not been helpful to ignore such misguided, unwarranted, and biased comments intended to tarnish the reputation of the Ghana Police Service and that of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The letter also stated that the British High Commissioner\u2019s tweet violates the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is more, we consider your tweet as a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961 which enjoins diplomatic missions not to interfere in the internal affairs of their host country\u201d<\/p>\n
