{"id":22871,"date":"2022-06-03T00:17:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-03T00:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=22871"},"modified":"2022-06-03T00:17:00","modified_gmt":"2022-06-03T00:17:00","slug":"govt-releases-gh%c2%a225m-seed-money-for-construction-of-national-cathedral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2022\/06\/03\/govt-releases-gh%c2%a225m-seed-money-for-construction-of-national-cathedral\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t releases GH\u00a225m seed money for construction of National Cathedral"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content no-share\">\n<div class=\"content-inner \">\n<p>Government has granted the release of GH\u00a225 million to the National Cathedral Secretariat as additional seed money for the construction of the National Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p>A letter, signed by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to the Controller and Accountant\u2019s General, directed that the money be credited to Ribade Limited, for part payment of outstanding claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAuthority is hereby granted to you to release the sum [of] GH\u00a225, 000,000.00 as additional seed money to the National Cathedral Secretariat for the construction of the National Cathedral for part payment of outstanding claims from RIBADE Limited,\u201d the letter added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-856606 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/D1F1CFE6-4221-42C5-9A77-517F07F379A4-e1654192981409.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/D1F1CFE6-4221-42C5-9A77-517F07F379A4-e1654192981409.png 750w, https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/D1F1CFE6-4221-42C5-9A77-517F07F379A4-e1654192981409-196x300.png 196w, https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/D1F1CFE6-4221-42C5-9A77-517F07F379A4-e1654192981409-670x1024.png 670w\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1147\" data-pin-no-hover=\"true\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The National Cathedral project was proposed by the government in March 2017 as a physical embodiment of national unity, harmony, and spirituality.<\/p>\n<p>The $350-million inter-denominational cathedral will have an auditorium capable of seating 5,000 people, as well as chapels, and a baptistery.<\/p>\n<p>It is targeted to be completed in March 2024.<\/p>\n<p>President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been criticised for his decision to build the National Cathedral in the face of numerous challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n<p>In his defence, the President has said the construction is in fulfilment of a<strong>\u00a0promise he made to God<\/strong>\u00a0in the run-up to the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p>A<strong>\u00a0businessman,<\/strong>\u00a0Jonathan Holm went to the Supreme Court to challenge the government\u2019s decision to give out the land and other forms of support for the building of the cathedral.<\/p>\n<p>The court, in February 2020, however, dismissed his injunction application seeking to halt ongoing works on the land earmarked to house the National Cathedral.<strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-container\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"jeg_post_tags\">source:citinews<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Government has granted the release of GH\u00a225 million to the National Cathedral Secretariat as additional seed money for the construction of the National Cathedral.
