European Council president Charles Michel accused Russia of using food supplies as \u201ca stealth missile against developing countries\u201d, and blamed the Kremlin for the looming global food crisis, prompting Moscow\u2019s UN ambassador to walk out of a security council meeting.<\/p>\n
Michel addressed Russian ambassador Vassily Nebenzia directly at a council meeting on Monday, saying he saw millions of tons of grain and wheat stuck in containers and ships at the Ukrainian port of Odesa a few weeks ago \u201cbecause of Russian warships in the Black Sea\u201d.<\/p>\n He said Moscow\u2019s attacks on Ukraine\u2019s transport infrastructure and grain storage facilities, and its tanks, airstrikes and mines were preventing\u00a0Ukraine\u00a0from planting and harvesting.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is driving up food prices, pushing people into poverty and destabilising entire regions,\u201d Michel said. \u201cRussia is solely responsible for this looming food crisis.
