{"id":23537,"date":"2022-06-17T13:04:04","date_gmt":"2022-06-17T13:04:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=23537"},"modified":"2022-06-17T13:04:04","modified_gmt":"2022-06-17T13:04:04","slug":"spacex-employees-fired-after-writing-letter-criticizing-elon-musk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2022\/06\/17\/spacex-employees-fired-after-writing-letter-criticizing-elon-musk\/","title":{"rendered":"SpaceX employees fired after writing letter criticizing Elon Musk"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"maincontent\" class=\"dcr-j7ihvk\">\n<div class=\"article-body-commercial-selector article-body-viewer-selector  dcr-18wsxay\">\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">At least five employees were fired by private rocket company SpaceX after drafting and circulating an open letter criticizing founder\u00a0Elon Musk\u00a0and calling on executives at the start-up to make the company\u2019s work culture more inclusive, according to two people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">SpaceX did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.<\/p>\n<div id=\"sign-in-gate\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">The New York Times reported on Thursday that\u00a0SpaceX\u00a0had fired employees associated with the letter, citing three employees with knowledge of the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">It had not detailed the number of employees who had been terminated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell sent an email saying the company had investigated and \u201cterminated a number of employees involved\u201d with the letter, the New York Times said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">The newspaper said Shotwell\u2019s email said employees involved with circulating the letter had been fired for making other staff feel \u201cuncomfortable, intimidated and bullied, and\/or angry because the letter pressured them to sign onto something that did not reflect their views\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">Reuters could not independently confirm that report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">The earlier open letter to SpaceX executives seen by Reuters had called Musk a \u201cdistraction and embarrassment\u201d to the company he founded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">In a list of three demands, the letter said: \u201cSpaceX must swiftly and explicitly separate itself from Elon\u2019s personal brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">It added: \u201cHold all leadership equally accountable to making SpaceX a great place to work for everyone\u201d and \u201cdefine and uniformly respond to all forms of unacceptable behavior\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dcr-1k32900\" data-print-layout=\"hide\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least five employees were fired by private rocket company SpaceX after drafting and circulating an open letter criticizing founder\u00a0Elon Musk\u00a0and calling on executives at the start-up to make the company\u2019s work culture more inclusive, according to two people familiar with the matter.
