{"id":2354,"date":"2019-07-07T14:00:36","date_gmt":"2019-07-07T14:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=2354"},"modified":"2019-10-26T18:33:11","modified_gmt":"2019-10-26T18:33:11","slug":"artistes-who-left-my-label-wanted-quick-fame-d-black","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2019\/07\/07\/artistes-who-left-my-label-wanted-quick-fame-d-black\/","title":{"rendered":"Artistes who left my label wanted quick fame \u2014 D-Black"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHEN the first of six signees of Black Avenue Muzik, owned \nby rapper D-Black, parted ways with the record label, nothing was made \nof it.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After all, it was not unusual for artistes to leave record labels but\n when right after that, three more exited two months ago, that raised \neyebrows and tongues started wagging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was speculation that the label lacked what it takes to handle \nthe artistes who included Freda Rhymes, Wisa Greid, Kobla Jnr and Dahlin\n Gage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, D-Black real name Desmond Blackmore, has dismissed the idea \nhis team was incapable of managing the artistes but rather attributes \nthe \u2018exodus\u2019 to the signees being impatient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey did not have the patience to wait to become stars, they wanted \nto be known quickly but my label and I wanted them to grow organically \nbecause that is what I believed and still believe in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat people don\u2019t know is that the best thing in this industry is to  go at a pace where you can never be forgotten in years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;When you grow organically, you last long in the game and you learn \nall that there is to learn and it gives you the strength to stand the \ntest of time when the dry season comes,\u201d he said in an interview with <strong>Graphic Showbiz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He, however, admitted that if the label had signed on a lesser number of artistes, things might have been different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYes, maybe if the number was less things would have been different \nand the story wouldn\u2019t be this but then I believe it is all good,\u201d he \nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On whether his lack of managerial skills could have contributed to \nhis signees leaving, D-Black responded that, \u201cI did not and do not mange\n artistes, anyone on the label came with his or her manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;All that I did is to invest and come in with the financing and we \nmade sure that at least within a year, each artiste had some songs out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D-Black also said he did not believe the exit of the artistes meant \nhe had failed. \u201cI have not failed, neither has the label. Rather, a lot \nof lessons have been learnt, they did their best and we also did our \npart and that is it. There is no bitterness whatsoever,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>Heaven or Hell<\/em> rapper also indicated that the issue had \nbrought them something positive saying, \u201cSigning them has made our brand\n known so that today, if you are mentioning record labels in Ghana, you \nwould mention Black Avenue Muzik.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked if he would take any of the signees back should the \nopportunity come up D-Black said, \u201cI do not take decisions alone and I\u2019m\n not sure that will happen because they are great artistes and can \nsurvive out there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D-Black, who still has two signees, S3fa and Nina Ricchie on the \nBlack Avenue Muzik label had some advice for up and coming artistes.<br> <br>\u201cYou\n do not need a record label to succeed, you can be great on your own. \nThe sky is big enough for everyone.
