Truss received a warmer reaction from the UK\u2019s traditional allies. In a statement of congratulations, New Zealand\u2019s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, referred to New Zealand\u2019s \u201cexceptionally strong relationship with the United Kingdom based on our shared values, history and culture\u201d.<\/p>\n
In her roles as trade and then foreign secretary, Truss was \u201ca staunch supporter of the UK\u2019s \u2018tilt\u2019 to the Indo-Pacific and played a central role in advancing our historic free trade agreement\u201d Ardern said.<\/p>\n
Gibraltar\u2019s chief minister, Fabian Picardo, praised Truss\u2019s role in negotiations over the post-Brexit future of the British overseas territory, which voted to remain in the EU.<\/p>\n
