Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James caught wind of the news, and he was quick to send his heartfelt message for Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LeBron took to Twitter to share his best memories of the referee as he joined the NBA world in mourning (h\/t\u00a0ClutchPoints\u00a0on Twitter):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cR.I.P. Tony man!! Great ref but greater dude! Loved when I ran on the court for warmups and he would be on the game that night! Your smile &amp; laugh will be missed tremendously here in our sport!\u201d LeBron wrote<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;R.I.P.  Tony man!! &#8230; Your smile &amp; laugh will be missed tremendously here in our sport!&quot;<br><br>LeBron James on the passing of former NBA referee Tony Brown \ud83d\udcaf <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RNqrVU8bhn\">https:\/\/t.co\/RNqrVU8bhn<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GT543TQJT2\">pic.twitter.com\/GT543TQJT2<\/a><\/p>&mdash; ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ClutchPoints\/status\/1583249299118227456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 21, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was in April of last year that Brown was\u00a0diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was actually able to recover well enough to be able to return to officiating in the NBA as part of the league\u2019s replay center last season. Unfortunately, Brown\u2019s condition worsened over the past few days and he entered hospice care, according to his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much like Lakers talisman LeBron James, league commissioner Adam Silver also sent his condolences to Brown\u2019s family, saying that he was the \u201cmost accomplished referees in the NBA and an inspiration to his colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brown\u2019s family came out with an official statement amid the passing of their patriarch (h\/t\u00a0ESPN):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWe are and have been sustained by the consistent outpouring of love and support through this journey in developing strength, acceptance and peace,\u201d Brown\u2019s family \u2014 his wife, Tina Taylor-Brown and their children, Bailey, Basile and Baylen \u2014 said in a statement. \u201cWe ask that you join us in that spirit as we prepare to celebrate Tony\u2019s life. Our biggest thank you to our village of family and friends, near and far, old and new. Your love is immeasurable.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Tony Brown.
