{"id":26945,"date":"2022-10-30T21:13:52","date_gmt":"2022-10-30T21:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=26945"},"modified":"2026-07-05T15:38:04","modified_gmt":"2026-07-05T15:38:04","slug":"let-strengthen-the-local-economy-and-lessen-our-reliance-on-imports-akufo-addo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2022\/10\/30\/let-strengthen-the-local-economy-and-lessen-our-reliance-on-imports-akufo-addo\/","title":{"rendered":"Let strengthen\u00a0the\u00a0local\u00a0economy\u00a0and\u00a0lessen\u00a0our\u00a0reliance\u00a0on\u00a0imports,\u00a0Akufo-Addo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>President&nbsp;Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo&nbsp;has appealed to Ghanaians to reduce their taste for imported goods.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that the overreliance on imported goods is one of the factors affecting the local currency and the economy in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Delivering his address on Sunday October 30, Mr Addo said \u201cLet us reduce our dependence on import.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further indicated that the implementation of the One District One Factory initiative will heap produce more local goods for domestic consumption and also expert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim is to expand export and limit import, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Akufo-Addo further warned persons who are publishing false news about the currency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the relevant state security agencies will come after such persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He&nbsp; cautioned against talking down the Cedi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also warned against speculation which leads to panic in the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said \u201cFellow Ghanaians, as the French would say, l\u2019argent n\u2019aime pas le bruit, to wit, money does not like noise, \u2018sika mp\u025b dede\u2019. Where there is chaos, where there is noise, where there is unrest, you will not find money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMoney doesn\u2019t like noise. If you talk down you currency, it will go down, if you allow others to talk down your currency it will go down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAll of us have a role to play in straightening the Cedi and stop speculation. Those who publish falsehood resulting in panic, the relevant state agencies will act against such person,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cedi has been struggling against the major trading currencies especially the Dollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it is making some gains recently.<a href=\"https:\/\/3news.com\/mining-must-make-africa-prosperous-not-poor-akufo-addo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are determined to restore stability in the economy,\u201d President Akufo-Addo said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President&nbsp;Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo&nbsp;has appealed to Ghanaians to reduce their taste for imported goods.
