{"id":29164,"date":"2023-01-13T06:54:48","date_gmt":"2023-01-13T06:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=29164"},"modified":"2023-01-13T06:54:52","modified_gmt":"2023-01-13T06:54:52","slug":"my-pesewa-wont-go-into-debt-restructuring-as-long-as-ofori-atta-is-minister-kwame-pianim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2023\/01\/13\/my-pesewa-wont-go-into-debt-restructuring-as-long-as-ofori-atta-is-minister-kwame-pianim\/","title":{"rendered":"My pesewa won\u2019t go into Debt Restructuring as long as Ofori-Atta is Minister \u2013 Kwame Pianim"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ghanaian economist, Kwame Pianim has vowed not to subscribe to government\u2019s controversial Domestic Debt Exchange programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the statesman, he would have gladly complied to help restore Ghana\u2019s fortunes if Ken Ofori-Atta was not at the helm of the Finance Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI would have been proud to contribute as Ghanaian but I will not contribute one pesewa for Ken Ofori-Atta leading this, he led us into a gutter,\u201d Mr Pianim said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking in an interview on Accra-based TV3, he called on Ken Ofori-Atta to render an apology for the doom he has caused Ghanaians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further argued that instead of Mr. Ofori-Atta merely expanding on the programme during his recent address, he should have \u201csaid I apologize, this is the result of economic mismanagement, I apologize to Ghanaian people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLook, there are pensioners who have put their resources into government bonds, you\u2019re asking them, I am not going to pay, Look at the exchange programme, and think about it carefully when you talking to your colleagues,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKen is saying I\u2019m not going to pay any interest on this year\u2019s while I\u2019m Minister of Finance and President is still president\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The economist did not end there. He expressed worry about the path the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is going if the current situation persists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The party, according to Kwame Pianim, is digging its grave if it does not push Akufo-Addo to remove Ken Ofori-Atta from the post of Finance Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe IMF $3 billion that they are going to give us, I want them to frontload it so that I chop it before I go, is that genuine?\u00a0 Are you serious that this is genuine?
