All have denied wrongdoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"cb129fcd-7223-4cc3-b046-13af766fe2b2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2023\/jan\/06\/andrew-tate-investigation-could-bring-down-king-toxic-masculinity\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.guim.co.uk\/img\/media\/49d3c2e0f5586e8876f75dbb4717e9e764b97017\/0_115_3448_2069\/master\/3448.jpg?width=460&amp;quality=85&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=max&amp;s=d6bab0a295452bfbe098f81d3d67eb4d\" alt=\"Andrew Tate is led away by police after a house raid in Bucharest, Romania.\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2023\/jan\/06\/andrew-tate-investigation-could-bring-down-king-toxic-masculinity\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last month a judge extended their detention until the end of February, citing \u201cthe capacity \u2026 of the defendants to exercise permanent psychological control over their victims, including by resorting to constant acts of violence\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That decision was upheld by the Bucharest court of appeal on Wednesday after a brief hearing for which the Tate brothers arrived in a police van handcuffed together, with Andrew proclaiming his innocence to waiting reporters. Neither has yet been charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The brothers\u2019 US legal adviser, Tina Glandian, who has previously represented the boxer Mike Tyson and the singers Chris Brown and Ke$ha, argued that their detention without charge for more than 30 days violated their international human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tate, a dual US-British citizen, was thrown off the UK version of Big Brother in 2016 and became notorious for his misogynistic remarks and hate speech. He has said women are partially responsible for being raped and that they \u201cbelong\u201d to men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After amassing millions of followers on social media, prompting fears that his videos were radicalising young men, he was eventually banned from all major platforms. In November he was reinstated on Twitter \u2013 where his account has 4.7 million followers \u2013 after Elon Musk\u2019s acquisition of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors launched their investigation last March after one of the brothers allegedly raped a trafficked woman. The brothers are accused of recruiting their victims by seducing them and falsely claiming to want a romantic relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"3d6fa0e2-7c71-4a12-b366-e74258291977\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2022\/aug\/06\/andrew-tate-violent-misogynistic-world-of-tiktok-new-star\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.guim.co.uk\/img\/media\/5916799091dc781e673bc0389b06ed7c203ce13a\/0_0_2419_1451\/master\/2419.jpg?width=460&amp;quality=85&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=max&amp;s=6a78055c57c079a6e7115ccce81c7d56\" alt=\"Andrew Tate on TikTok.\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2022\/aug\/06\/andrew-tate-violent-misogynistic-world-of-tiktok-new-star\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The victims were then allegedly taken to properties outside Bucharest where they were forced \u201cthrough physical violence, mental intimidation and coercion\u201d to produce pornographic content for social media sites, generating large profits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The prosecution has so far identified six victims, including minors.
