{"id":30358,"date":"2023-03-28T05:57:23","date_gmt":"2023-03-28T05:57:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=30358"},"modified":"2023-03-28T05:57:25","modified_gmt":"2023-03-28T05:57:25","slug":"video-gold-mafia-smuggled-40m-of-gold-from-ghana-monthly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2023\/03\/28\/video-gold-mafia-smuggled-40m-of-gold-from-ghana-monthly\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: Gold mafia smuggled $40m of gold from Ghana monthly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A gold trader exposed in Al Jazeera\u2019s Gold Mafia investigative documentary has revealed that he smuggles a ton of gold from Ghana every month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al Jazeera\u2019s latest investigation, Gold Mafia, has uncovered a band of criminals driving gold smuggling and money laundering worth billions of dollars in Southern Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, those involved in this gold smuggling syndicate have business networks that stretch across the continent and operate in many other countries including Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alistair Mathias, described by the investigative reporters as a financial architect who builds money laundering schemes for corrupt politicians, was approached by undercover journalists posing as Chinese criminals to help them launder money from China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While assuring the undercover reporters of his competence, he revealed that he has been smuggling $40million worth of gold from Ghana monthly, which is $480 million worth of gold annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gold Mafia - Episode 1 - The Laundry Service I Al Jazeera Investigations\" width=\"1290\" height=\"726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/evWEuVR1XIs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve been doing it for about 13 years now, 14 years. In Ghana I do one ton. I do $40million every month out of Ghana. This region I do probably about 500 to one ton again. I do roughly about $70 to $80 million every month. We can export from Zambia.
