{"id":32452,"date":"2023-05-01T09:10:01","date_gmt":"2023-05-01T09:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=32452"},"modified":"2023-05-01T09:10:04","modified_gmt":"2023-05-01T09:10:04","slug":"may-day-icu-general-secretary-demands-intl-standard-wage-for-ghanaian-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2023\/05\/01\/may-day-icu-general-secretary-demands-intl-standard-wage-for-ghanaian-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"May Day: ICU General Secretary Demands Int\u2019l-standard Wage For Ghanaian Workers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers\u2019 Union (ICU), Morgan Ayawine, is demanding commitment from employers in paying workers living wages in conformity with international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stressed that this will be commensurate with their toils and sacrifices for increased productivity, translating into economic growth and national development in Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was contained in his 2023 May Day Message to all members of the Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Workers across the globe are marking the occasion on Monday, May 1 with Ghanaians doing so on the theme: \u2018Protecting Incomes and Pensions in an Era of Economic Crises: Our Responsibility\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pointed out that pensions should not be violated whatsoever given its importance to the survival of the worker now and in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOn this score, achieving a living wage for the workers of Ghana and, by extension, protecting incomes and pensions, must be the responsibility of all stakeholders in the socio-economic equation of the country,\u201d Mr Ayawine stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He assured employers and, indeed, government that workers \u201cshall continue to play the role expected of us in the economic equation of the country by working hard\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the same vein, the other two members of the triumvirate partnership \u2013 Employers, should motivate workers with institutionalisation of a living wage as mentioned earlier and stop casualisation of employment, while Government promulgates sound and effective economic policies and programmes that would create conducive environment for economic growth and development.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers\u2019 Union (ICU), Morgan Ayawine, is demanding commitment from employers in paying workers living wages in conformity with international standards.
