Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, has been arrested by the military as he appeared in court in Islamabad to face charges in a corruption case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fawad Chaudhry, a senior official with Khan\u2019s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, said the 72-year-old was arrested on Tuesday on the premises of the court by agents from the National Accountability Bureau, the country\u2019s anti-corruption body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Reuters witness said that shortly after Khan entered through the gate of the Islamabad high court, contingents of paramilitary forces and armoured personnel carriers entered after him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The gate was blocked by the armoured vehicles and Khan was whisked away under heavy security, the witness said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khan was ousted as prime minister in a no-confidence vote in April last year. He has claimed his ousting was illegal and a western conspiracy and has campaigned against the government of his successor, Shehbaz Sharif, demanding early elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
