As the brains behind hit shows The X Factor and Britain\u2019s Got Talent, Simon Cowell has long since conquered the small screen.<\/p>\n

And now, as he approaches his 60th birthday, he is determined to shake up his career \u2013 and improve the longevity of his \u2018brand\u2019 \u2013 by aiming for success in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Sources say he is \u2018focusing on films\u2019 following the recent successes of music-based biopics such as Rocketman, and hopes to bag himself an Academy Award.<\/p>\n

\u2018Simon has talked openly about wanting to win an Oscar,\u2019 a source said. \u2018He\u2019s looking at music-related film projects because they are all the rage now after the success of Bohemian Rhapsody and the Elton John biopic.\u2019<\/p>\n

And the man who knows a thing or two about the powers of transformation \u2013 having turned dowdy Scottish singer Susan Boyle into a global sensation and masterminded the creation of boyband One Direction from five gangly teenagers \u2013 is working his magic a bit closer to home these days.<\/p>\n

The 59-year-old music mogul, known for his unashamedly middle-aged physique and commitment to high-waisted jeans, cut a different figure when he appeared at the first day of auditions for Britain\u2019s Got Talent last week.<\/em><\/p>\n

The astonishing 20 lb weight loss is the result of a new commitment to healthy living and a practically vegan diet which involves cutting out meat, dairy, sugar and gluten.<\/p>\n

Even the beer in his hand was low-alcohol and low-carb, and just 89 calories a bottle.<\/p>\n

\u2018Simon is a new man,\u2019 said a friend who saw him recently in Los Angeles. \u2018The weight loss is staggering, his teeth look whiter than ever and he\u2019s bouncing around with more energy than normal.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s remarkable how much he\u2019s changed in such a relatively short time. His 60th birthday is coming up in October and he\u2019s determined to be in the best shape of his life.<\/p>\n

\u2018Having Eric has changed his outlook. He wants to be around to see his son grow up.\u2019<\/p>\n

Cowell has said he feels \u2018re-energised\u2019 by his dramatic weight loss.<\/p>\n

He told ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour \u2013 who works for US TV show Extra \u2013 that he went to see a \u2018very well-known\u2019 specialist doctor who radically altered his diet after a series of blood tests.<\/p>\n

\u2018And I did it and I stuck to it and it\u2019s easy,\u2019 Cowell said.<\/p>\n

The star was inspired to change his lifestyle after he was taken to hospital in October 2017 following a fall down the stairs at his London home. He said he fainted because of low blood pressure, and it had been a \u2018wake-up call\u2019 for his health. But it was only last year that he began to think seriously about his diet, and initially consulted cosmetic specialist Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh.<\/p>\n

source said: \u2018It was pretty straightforward. Simon went to a specialist recommended by Dr Sebagh, who ran a series of sensitivity and allergy tests and told him exactly what needed to be cut out from his diet.<\/p>\n

\u2018Simon felt the effects immediately. He stuck to it, but has looked at Eric\u2019s pizza longingly a few times. The other key to his weight loss is cycling everywhere. He is superfit and in the best shape of his life.\u2019 Another friend told The Mail on Sunday that it was \u2018no secret\u2019 that Cowell enjoyed a drink and he would go out \u2018all the time\u2019.<\/p>\n

But they said he now entertains at home so his private chef can make sure he sticks to his diet.<\/p>\n

\u2018When you look in Simon\u2019s fridge there is no dairy,\u2019 the friend added.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s all soy and almond milk and lots of veggies.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s loving all the compliments. Now he\u2019s determined to bring the same discipline to finding new work projects as he has to his own physical makeover.\u2019<\/p>\n

The X Factor and Britain\u2019s Got Talent have helped net Cowell an estimated fortune of \u00a3460 million after being turned into global franchises. There are plans for a spin-off Celebrity X Factor special, and an X Factor \u2018All Stars\u2019 show which will see former winners compete for the title of all-time champion.<\/p>\n

Cowell is also currently filming Britain\u2019s Got Talent: The Champions with previous winners and favourites. But criticism over the shows\u2019 \u2018tired\u2019 formats means Cowell is anxious to find \u2018the next big thing\u2019 to keep his SyCo Entertainment empire dominant.<\/p>\n

His latest offering, BBC\u2019s The Greatest Dancer, failed to capture the imagination of fans or critics.<\/p>\n

\u2018Shows like Love Island have come along and are generating far more buzz than some of Simon\u2019s newer shows,\u2019 a source said.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s not about money for Simon now. It\u2019s about staying ahead of the game and staying relevant.\u2019<\/p>\n

Cowell helped to produce the critically acclaimed 2013 One Direction film This Is Us and another about opera-singing Britain\u2019s Got Talent winner Paul Potts.<\/p>\n

He now has three or four films on the go, including one inspired by the Sixties band The Monkees. A source said: \u2018It\u2019s based on all the experiences Simon has had creating and working with huge boybands. It is a live-action hybrid, which means there are real actors but parts of the movie are animated.\u2019 Simon is collaborating on the film with producers Animal Logic, who are behind the hit movies Happy Feet and Peter Rabbit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
