{"id":34254,"date":"2023-05-28T11:04:15","date_gmt":"2023-05-28T11:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=34254"},"modified":"2023-05-28T11:04:39","modified_gmt":"2023-05-28T11:04:39","slug":"mahama-ayariga-justifies-minoritys-decision-against-justice-torkornoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2023\/05\/28\/mahama-ayariga-justifies-minoritys-decision-against-justice-torkornoo\/","title":{"rendered":"Mahama Ayariga Justifies Minority\u2019s Decision Against Justice Torkornoo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has emphasized the need for the details of the ruling on James Gyakye Quayson, to be released immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ayariga stated that this demand is crucial for both the Minority Caucus and the public to understand the philosophy and rationale behind the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling, which directed Parliament to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2023\/05\/supreme-court-orders-parliament-to-expunge-gyakye-quaysons-name\/\">remove Quayson\u2019s name from its records<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Ayariga on<strong> The Big Issue <\/strong>on<strong> Citi TV<\/strong> said that though the president\u2019s Chief Justice nominee, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo \u201cdid a very brilliant job before the Appointments Committee, and she was impressive and looking at her CV, she has the administrative abilities to lead the justice system,\u201d it is important for the ruling on Gyakye Quayson to be made available to the Appointments Committee to enhance the image of the judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ayariga explained, \u201cWe were very impressed with her CV and her background\u2026but we were also looking at the way that the judiciary had been managed in contemptuous political matters, and we wanted to make that point\u2026we will want to know her philosophy and the kind of argument that she will give to justify the decision taken to kick one of us out of Parliament so that it will enable us to move forward, and so we are not deferring her approval.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further emphasized that understanding the reasoning behind a unanimous decision is crucial and that it\u2019s essential for the court to make its comments on rulings known to maintain its image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consequently, the members of the Minority Caucus have decided to withhold their vote on Torkornoo\u2019s approval until they receive <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2023\/05\/minority-demands-gyakye-quaysons-judgement-before-voting-on-justice-torkornoo\/\">Gyakye Quayson\u2019s judgment<\/a><\/strong> by June 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Supreme Court not biased; we follow the law \u2013 Justice Torkornoo | Citi Newsroom\" width=\"1290\" height=\"726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YAyFdF369zY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has emphasized the need for the details of the ruling on James Gyakye Quayson, to be released immediately.
