Mason Greenwood has joined Getafe on a season-long loan following 19 months of inactivity at Manchester United,with the Spanish club paying no fee and making only a minor contribution to his salary of about \u00a375,000 a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The player was charged by Greater Manchester police with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault in October 2022 after allegations were made online. The\u00a0charges were dropped in February when the Crown Prosecution Service said there was \u201cno longer a realistic prospect of conviction\u201d after key witnesses withdrew their cooperation from the investigation and new evidence had come to light. Greenwood denied all charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week United announced Greenwood\u00a0would leave the club by mutual agreement, a statement saying: \u201cAll those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greenwood has not played for United since 22 January 2022, in a 1-0 win against West Ham at Old Trafford. He is contracted to United until 2025 with the option of a further year.\u00a0Getafe are 12th in La Liga with four points after three games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A United statement said: \u201cMason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance. The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United sealed a \u00a310m season-long loan\u00a0for Fiorentina\u2019s Sofyanu Amrabat with minutes remaining before Friday\u2019s 11pm transfer deadline, with Sergio Reguil\u00f3n, Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans signed earlier in the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United moved to acquire Reguil\u00f3n due to the long-term\u00a0muscle problem sufferedo by Luke Shaw, Ten Hag\u2019s first-choice left-back. The manager\u00a0favoured Chelsea\u2019s Marc Cucurella\u00a0but the parent club would not countenance a January break clause in the loan terms.
