The watch should have been registered because it is an import.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schwarzenegger said he tried to tell officials that the watch was being donated to his Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, and is\u00a0due to be auctioned off at an event\u00a0in the Austrian ski resort of Kitzb\u00fchel on Thursday night. \u201cThis is the problem that Germany is suffering from. You can no longer see the forest for the trees,\u201d he told Bild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials charged Schwarzenegger \u20ac35,000, including \u20ac4,000 in tax and a \u20ac5,000 penalty, according to Bild. The actor is said to have offered to pay the charge with his credit card, but German customs rules require half of the charge to be paid in cash. Customs officials are said to have accompanied Schwarzenegger to a bank to withdraw cash, before he was allowed to continue his journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A customs spokesperson told\u00a0Sueddeutsche<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sueddeutsche.de\/muenchen\/muenchen-schwarzenegger-arnold-flughafen-zoll-1.6334542?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=twitterbot&amp;utm_campaign=6334542&amp;s=09\"> <\/a>Zeitung: \u201cIf the goods remain in the EU, you have to declare them through customs. This applies to everyone, whether their name is Schwarzenegger or M\u00fcller, Meier, Huber.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The watch was made especially for Schwarzenegger by the luxury Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet. Other lots at Thursday\u2019s auction, which Schwarzenegger will host, include \u201ca training session with\u00a0Arnold Schwarzenegger\u00a0himself\u201d, as well as artworks, signed exhibits, and \u201cexperiences from the worlds of sports and film\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proceeds will support the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, which organises the annual Austrian World Summit climate conference in Vienna and backs climate projects globally,\u201d the charity says on its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSchwarzenegger has been fighting pollution and climate change for over 20 years.
