Nominations also were handed to hip-hop duo Eric B. &amp; Rakim, soft rockers Foreigner,\u00a0<strong>singer-guitarist Peter Frampton<\/strong>, alt-rockers Jane\u2019s Addiction and\u00a0<strong>Dave Matthews Band<\/strong>, and dance icons Kool &amp; the Gang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-dominant-color=\"362b2c\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #362b2c;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"736\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/2024\/02\/IMG_4560-1024x736.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41577 not-transparent\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/2024\/02\/IMG_4560-1024x736.webp 1024w, https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/2024\/02\/IMG_4560-300x216.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/2024\/02\/IMG_4560-768x552.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/2024\/02\/IMG_4560-120x86.webp 120w, https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/2024\/02\/IMG_4560-750x539.webp 750w, https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/2024\/02\/IMG_4560-1140x819.webp 1140w, https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/pub\/2024\/02\/IMG_4560-jpeg.webp 1154w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cContinuing in the true spirit of rock \u2018n\u2019 roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps,\u201d said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten of the 15 nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Frampton, Kool &amp; the Gang, Kravitz, Oasis, O\u2019Connor, Osbourne and Sade. Sade, whose 1980s soft rock hits include \u201cSmooth Operator\u201d and \u201cThe Sweetest Taboo,\u201d is having a moment, having last year been inducted into the&nbsp;<strong>Songwriters Hall of Fame<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carey, with 19 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, Blige with eight multi-platinum albums and nine Grammy Awards, and Cher \u2014 the only artist to have a No. 1 song in each of the past six decades \u2014 would help boost the number of women in the hall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they\u2019re eligible for induction. The induction ceremony will take place in Cleveland this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nominees will be voted on by more than 1,000 artists, historians and music industry professionals. Fans can vote online or in person at the museum, with the top five artists picked by the public making up a \u201cfans\u2019 ballot\u201d that will be tallied with the other professional ballots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Chaka Khan, \u201cSoul Train\u201d creator Don Cornelius, Kate Bush and the late George Michael&nbsp;<strong>were some of the artists who got into the hall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mary J.
