It was an immediate confirmation of his position as the ideal halftime performer: one with timeless, well-known hits<\/strong>, masterful choreography, and a devoted audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He started with \u201cCaught Up,\u201d moving into \u201cU Don\u2019t Have to Call,\u201d \u201cSuperstar,\u201d and \u201cLove in the Club.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then Alicia Keys joined in front of bright red piano for her song \u201cIf I Ain\u2019t Got You,\u201d which morphed into \u201cMy Boo,\u201dUsher losing a glove in an apparent tribute to Michael Jackson \u2014 notable for a performance during Black History Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey said I wouldn\u2019t make it,\u201d he told the crowd, dedicating the set to his \u201cmama.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across 13 minutes during the halftime show\u00a0sponsored by Apple Music<\/strong>, Usher brought out a number of guests including H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon (for \u201cTurn Down for What,\u201d which became \u201cYeah!\u201d \u2014 and included a guest appearance from Ludacris).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across three decades, the R&B superstar had an endless treasure trove of hits to pull from \u2014 and did so with costume changes, and a rolling performance of \u201cOMG\u201d while wearing roller skates \u2014 at one moment, sliding between will.i.am\u2019s legs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His album \u201cConfessions\u201d ranks among one of the best-selling music projects of all time and turned 20 this year; \u201cBurn\u201d became an easy performance highlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past two years, Usher, 45, has made Vegas a home for his unique talents, with his sold-out residency, \u201cUsher: My Way,\u201d at Dolby Live at Park MGM making him the perfect pick for Sunday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eight-time Grammy award winner is also no stranger to the Super Bowl stage \u2014 he made a guest appearance with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am in 2011. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI got a chance to see a bit of what it felt like,\u201d Usher told The Associated Press<\/strong> in a recent interview. In his first Super Bowl performance<\/strong>, he descended from the stadium ceiling to perform \u201cOMG\u201d in Arlington, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon\u2019t take the moments for granted because you only get 13 of them,\u201d he said in advance of his 2024 performance, referring to the usually allotted 13-minute run time. \u201cThe hardest part is trying to figure out how to squeeze it all in when you actually have a large catalog, or a lot of records people celebrate and love.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
