Almost as ominously for the Conservatives, they only managed to beat Reform UK by 117 votes. According to the BBC\u2019s tally, they have already lost more than 100 seats.\u00a0Within the last hour\u00a0<strong>Prof Sir John Curtice<\/strong>, the BBC\u2019s election specialist, told the Today programme that the Conservatives were \u201cbasically losing half the seats they\u2019re trying to defend\u201d. He said if that continued, they could end up losing around 500 seats. He said the party seemed to be on course for \u201cone of the worst, if not the worst Conservative performance in local government elections for the last 40 years\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Labour has gained control of four councils: Rushmoor and Redditch, both from the Conservatives; and Hartlepool and Thurrock, both from no overall control.\u00a0<\/strong>The Conservatives have lost control of three councils. Only 34 of the 107 councils were elections are taking place have declared.
