Staff were informed in an email on Tuesday that anyone who does not wish to \u00adconform can quit and claim their bonus early for this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"0b42bffc-507e-4433-8633-78476661b591\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/article\/2024\/may\/28\/manchester-united-confident-uefa-will-not-demote-them-from-europa-league\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.guim.co.uk\/img\/media\/95b7edee76430b3f4b18587215faf1180c67b1fb\/0_158_5554_3332\/master\/5554.jpg?width=460&amp;quality=85&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=max&amp;s=dea96921d8dd16227ac2e5d90dbb60ed\" alt=\"Manchester United qualified for next season\u2019s Europa League by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is understood the terms are also on offer to those who work exclusively from the offices but want to take the opportunity to leave with a payoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bonus, which will \u00adotherwise be paid in September, can be worth four-figure sums for some staff. United employees have until noon next Wednesday to confirm they wish\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The email said of the office\u2011only policy: \u201cWhilst many have \u00adwelcomed our new approach, we are aware that&nbsp;a number of colleagues prefer not to commit to this new way of working and are keen to understand their options. With this feedback in mind and the fact that we respect each colleague\u2019s right to choose their approach to work, we will allow those&nbsp;who wish to resign now to claim&nbsp;their bonus early for this season if they cannot work from our offices from 1 June.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">United believe, the email said, that \u201ca return to office will bring \u00adsubstantial benefits for \u00adindividuals, teams, and the wider club\u00a0and \u00adsupport our journey to return Manchester United to footballing success\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A United spokesperson said: \u201cThis isn\u2019t a voluntary redun\u00addancy programme. The club recognises that not everyone wants to work from the office full\u2011time so has provided options for staff who don\u2019t wish to return to the office to step away now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ratcliffe, the 27.7% minority owner, believes the workforce can be trimmed and has previously cited&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/article\/2024\/may\/08\/sir-jim-ratcliffe-manchester-united-remote-work-ban-email-traffic\">email<\/a>&nbsp;traffic statistics to staff as the basis for a ban on working from home,&nbsp;telling them to seek \u00ad\u201calternative employment\u201d if they were not \u00adwilling to come to club offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an email sent to staff last \u00adFriday, plans for an end to home \u00adworking were outlined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To ensure we have enough space for colleagues to work safely, we will\u00a0convert the Trinity Club, the Knights Lounge and the 1999 Suite in East Stand into office space,\u201d the email said. \u201cThis is \u00adaddition to \u00adexisting facilities in the Engine Room and elsewhere across the stadium. Each desk will have a monitor, keyboard and mouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe London office will be reconfigured to allow additional space for&nbsp;teams. Some teams will also be based at the Ineos office at Hans \u00adCrescent in Knightsbridge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ratcliffe is this week leading a \u00adseason review, which was not expected to be concluded on Tuesday. Sir Dave Brailsford, Ratcliffe\u2019s key lieutenant, Jean-Claude Blanc,&nbsp;the acting chief executive, and Jason \u00adWilcox, the technical director, are the other individuals most prominently involved.
