Manchester United have made the Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee their first signing of the summer \u2013 and the Ineos era \u2013 for a fee of \u20ac42.5m (\u00a335.8m) from Bologna. The striker has agreed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option of a \u00adfurther season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zirkzee, who represented his country at the Euros, started his professional career at Bayern Munich before moving to Italy permanently in 2022 after loan spells with Parma and Anderlecht. Last season he won Serie A\u2019s under-23 player of the \u00adseason award, finishing as Bologna\u2019s top scorer as they qualified for the \u00adChampions League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United were eager to sign a striker after scoring only 58 times last season on their way to finishing eighth. The 23-year-old had a \u20ac40m release clause but United paid the extra money to allow them to spread the fee over three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dan Ashworth, the Manchester United sporting director, said: \u201cSecuring a forward to enhance our already strong group of attacking players was a key aim for this summer. We are delighted that we\u2019ve managed to sign a player of Joshua\u2019s calibre this early in the transfer window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
