The Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, has distanced himself from the apology rendered on his behalf by the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, following his expulsion by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred during a discussion on the nomination of two justices to the Supreme Court by President Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaker Bagbin had urged the House to examine the issues surrounding the full complement of the Supreme Court when the Appointments Committee presents its report. However, Dr. Afriyie disagreed with the Speaker\u2019s remarks, stating that it was not within Bagbin\u2019s purview to make such comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This disagreement led to the Speaker ordering Dr. Afriyie\u2019s removal from the House, describing his comments as \u201crude\u201d and \u201cdisrespectful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response, the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, apologized to the Speaker on behalf of the caucus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, Dr. Afriyie denied any wrongdoing and stated that he had not authorized the Majority Chief Whip to apologize on his behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He maintained that his comments were neither insulting nor disrespectful to the Speaker and did not warrant an apology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe apologised on my behalf? Well, he doesn\u2019t have my permission to do that and this one you can put on record. We\u2019ll take it to everywhere. I haven\u2019t done any wrong, why should I apologise?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
