{"id":43744,"date":"2024-09-02T07:33:39","date_gmt":"2024-09-02T07:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=43744"},"modified":"2024-09-02T07:33:44","modified_gmt":"2024-09-02T07:33:44","slug":"protestors-block-roads-in-israel-as-general-strike-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2024\/09\/02\/protestors-block-roads-in-israel-as-general-strike-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"Protestors block roads in Israel as general strike begins"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dozens of protesters have blocked\u00a0<strong>Ibn Gvirol Street<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Tel Aviv<\/strong>, demanding the government agree a deal to release the remaining hostages held by Hamas amid widespread public anger at the government\u2019s handling of the war in\u00a0Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protesters also gathered at\u00a0<strong>Shilat Junction<\/strong>\u00a0near Modi\u2019in and blocked a road in the northern city of\u00a0<strong>Rosh Pina<\/strong>,\u00a0the Times of Israel reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Histadrut \u2013 one of the country\u2019s most powerful unions \u2013 announced the one-day strike, which started at 6am (local time) this morning. It is unclear how many people will join in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Government and municipal offices are due to close, as well as schools and many private businesses.
