{"id":44680,"date":"2024-12-13T07:04:52","date_gmt":"2024-12-13T07:04:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=44680"},"modified":"2026-07-05T15:18:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-05T15:18:38","slug":"ec-declares-npps-ernest-kumi-winner-of-disputed-akwatia-parliamentary-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2024\/12\/13\/ec-declares-npps-ernest-kumi-winner-of-disputed-akwatia-parliamentary-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"EC declares NPP\u2019s Ernest Kumi winner of disputed Akwatia parliamentary seat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Electoral Commission has officially declared Ernest Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the Member of Parliament-elect for Akwatia in the Eastern Region, following a protracted and highly contentious electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The declaration was made at the National Police Training School at Tesano in Accra, after multiple failed attempts to finalize the results in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ernest Kumi garnered 19,269 votes, while the National Democratic Congress&#8217; (NDC) Henry Yiadom Boakye had 17,206 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Akwatia constituency, traditionally a stronghold of the NPP, became a focal point of national attention in the December 7 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What should have been a straightforward declaration of results turned into a prolonged process riddled with disputes, delays, and accusations from various quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ernest Kumi had previously won the NPP primary in 2023, defeating Ama Sey to secure the party\u2019s ticket.
