{"id":44998,"date":"2025-01-26T18:39:09","date_gmt":"2025-01-26T18:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=44998"},"modified":"2025-01-26T18:39:11","modified_gmt":"2025-01-26T18:39:11","slug":"ill-sacrifice-my-life-to-ensure-anti-gay-bill-is-passed-bagbin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2025\/01\/26\/ill-sacrifice-my-life-to-ensure-anti-gay-bill-is-passed-bagbin\/","title":{"rendered":"I\u2019ll sacrifice my life to ensure anti-gay bill is passed \u2013 Bagbin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, widely known as the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, into law in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing traditional leaders and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on January 26, Bagbin underscored his dedication to safeguarding Ghanaian cultural and moral values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He expressed his readiness to make personal sacrifices, stating, \u201cI can lose my life for this cause.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/hmj.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"907\" height=\"597\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/hmj.jpg 907w, https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/hmj-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/hmj-768x506.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/hmj-750x494.jpg 750w\">Bagbin revealed that he plans to formally request guidance from the Minister for Justice and Attorney General on advancing the bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proposed legislation, which expired with the 8th Parliament in 2024, had previously been passed by Parliament but failed to receive presidential assent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe LGBTQ bill was passed by Parliament, but the former president refused to assent to it, which was unconstitutional. Parliament is the authority for passing laws, not the president. That decision was wrong, and all of you punished him for that,\u201d Bagbin remarked, referencing the actions of the previous administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bagbin further clarified his next steps, saying, \u201cI am going to write to the new Attorney General and Minister for Justice for his comments so we can resend it to the new president for assent. This will not take time it will be passed this year. It is ungodly, and nobody should joke with me on this. It will be passed this year.
