{"id":45790,"date":"2025-08-04T11:47:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T11:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=45790"},"modified":"2025-08-04T11:47:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T11:47:14","slug":"cid-details-how-criminals-steal-and-ship-vehicles-into-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2025\/08\/04\/cid-details-how-criminals-steal-and-ship-vehicles-into-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"CID details how criminals steal and ship vehicles into Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ghana Police Service has uncovered a sophisticated criminal scheme used to smuggle stolen vehicles into the country, involving the use of fake identities and fraudulent shipping tactics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a press briefing on Monday, August 4, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donko, revealed that a special CID task force, set up to tackle vehicle-related crimes, has gathered intelligence exposing the operations of transnational criminal syndicates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese criminals rent vehicles using fake identities. While the rental agreement is still valid, they secretly arrange for the vehicles to be shipped out. Once they receive confirmation that the vehicle has been successfully exported, they stop paying the rental fees and cut off communication with the rental company,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quality properties for rent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to COP Donko, the vehicles are often rented from car rental companies abroad\u2014particularly in Canada\u2014and smuggled into Ghana under false pretences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So far, the CID task force has impounded six vehicles believed to be stolen. The recovered vehicles include four Toyota Tundras, one Toyota RAV4, and one Range Rover\u2014all traced back to theft incidents in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the individuals behind the illegal importation network.
