{"id":5270,"date":"2019-08-19T09:11:42","date_gmt":"2019-08-19T09:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=5270"},"modified":"2019-10-26T18:19:18","modified_gmt":"2019-10-26T18:19:18","slug":"asamponhene-of-kumasi-killed-updated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2019\/08\/19\/asamponhene-of-kumasi-killed-updated\/","title":{"rendered":"Asamponhene of Kumasi killed [UPDATED]"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Asamponhene of Kumasi has reportedly been killed by some armed men.<\/h2>\n<p>Known as Oheneba Kwadwo Afodour, he was reportedly stabbed whilst travelling on the Ejura &#8211; Nkoranza road in the Ashanti Region on Sunday, August 18, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Police officers received information that a vehicle had been involved in an accident on the road but when they arrived at the scene, they realised the victim, who was later identified as\u00a0Oheneba Kwadwo Afodour had been stabbed, Graphic Online gathered.<\/p>\n<p>The attackers reportedly also attempted to set the vehicle ablaze, a police source told <strong>Graphic Online<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The body of the deceased has since been sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.<\/p>\n<p>The police have initiated investigations and a police source told Graphic Online investigators suspect the incident was chieftaincy related.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.graphic.com.gh\/images\/files\/asamponhene.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oheneba Afodour, popularly referred to as &#8220;Chief&#8221; in some quarters, also owned the popular <em><strong>X5 pub<\/strong><\/em> at Ashanti New Town in Kumasi near the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional office.<\/p>\n<p>He was a direct relative of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0the Asamponhene of Kumasi, his role was\u00a0to lead war for the Asantehene and moves ahead of the retinue of the Asantehene.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Graphic Online<\/strong> witnessed movement of chiefs at the Manhyia Palace around 10 pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.graphic.com.gh\/images\/files\/asamphene_car.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Police statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a police statement issued by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Godwin Ahianyo in charge of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations, the police explained the body of the\u00a046-year-old\u00a0Nana Kwadwo\u00a0Afordour, was found in his vehicle at about 4:30 pm near Ebuom on the Ejura \u2013 Nkoranza<br \/>\nHighway.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is believed the late chief was murdered and his body deposited at the back seat of his Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle and abandoned at the outskirts of the village,&#8221; the police statement said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Police have since commenced investigation into the case and is working earnestly to get the perpetrators arrested.\u00a0The general public is also being urged to assist police investigations by volunteering\u00a0information through police hotlines: MTN and Vodafone toll free lines 18555 and all<br \/>\nnetworks on 191 or 0299202240,&#8221; the police statement added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>source:dailygraphic<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Asamponhene of Kumasi has reportedly been killed by some armed men.
