{"id":53218,"date":"2026-08-06T20:15:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T20:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=53218"},"modified":"2026-08-06T20:15:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T20:15:13","slug":"3-suspects-including-dutch-national-picked-up-by-police-over-suspected-cocaine-seized-in-tema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2026\/08\/06\/3-suspects-including-dutch-national-picked-up-by-police-over-suspected-cocaine-seized-in-tema\/","title":{"rendered":"3 suspects including Dutch national picked up by police over suspected cocaine seized in Tema"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Dutch national and two other suspects have been picked by the police as key suspects in the 866 parcels of a white powdered substance suspected to be cocaine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The substance, which according to the police has a street value of around US$6.9 million were concealed in sacks of gari at the Tema Port enclave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest by the Tema police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police have named the suspects Gilano Horwin, 31, aged 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The others are John Mensah Sabah, 41; and Alhaji Iddris Haruna,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police intercepted the 40-foot container, which was being loaded with the parcels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Eric Asamoah Asiedu, at a press briefing on Thursday (August 6, 2026), a separate narcotics operation on the same day, als resulted in the arrest of another suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DCOP Asamoah Asiedu said the Command received intelligence at about 7:15 p.m. on August 5, 2026, that some young men were loading parcels of a white substance concealed in sacks of gari into a 40-foot container at a warehouse within the Tema Port enclave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the consignment was being prepared for export when a police team arrived at the scene and found three men who supervising the loading operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to DCOP Asamoah Asiedu, the container was mounted on a white DAF truck with registration number WR 1118-10. The suspects, together with the truck, were taken to the Tema Regional Police headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said a search of the sacks led to the recovery of 866 parcels of a white substance suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated value of US$6,928,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DCOP Asamoah Asiedu said during interrogation, Owin allegedly stated that the substance was cocaine and claimed ownership of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three suspects have been detained to assist investigations, while the exhibits have been secured for forensic examination to determine the exact nature of the substance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Regional Commander said investigations were ongoing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a separate operation on the same day, the Prampram District Police intercepted a taxi allegedly transporting substances suspected to be Indian hemp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DCOP Asamoah Asiedu said the Tsopoli Police received information at about 5 p.m. on August 5, 2026, that the taxi was being pursued.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Dutch national and two other suspects have been picked by the police as key suspects in the 866 parcels of a white powdered substance suspected to be cocaine.
