{"id":6248,"date":"2019-08-24T16:52:39","date_gmt":"2019-08-24T16:52:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/?p=6248"},"modified":"2019-08-24T16:52:39","modified_gmt":"2019-08-24T16:52:39","slug":"amasaman-ndc-delegates-defy-rains-to-vote-in-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nsemgh.com\/2019\/08\/24\/amasaman-ndc-delegates-defy-rains-to-vote-in-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Amasaman: NDC Delegates Defy Rains To Vote In Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 1,230 delegates are expected to cast their votes in the Amasaman constituency as part of the National Democratic Congress\u2019 (NDC) ongoing parliamentary primaries.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the delegates defied early morning rains to arrive and showed up to cast their ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Citi News\u2019\u00a0<strong>Pius Amihere<\/strong>\u00a0reported that the process has been smooth as adequate security personnel have been deployed to the center to maintain law and order but said intermittent rains led to brief confusion at the centre.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Amasaman-NDC-primaries-1-1024x768.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Five aspirants are seeking to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea who has been the MP for two consecutive terms since the constituency was created in 2012. The other five are;<\/p>\n<p>1.Sedem Kweku Afenyo<br \/>\n2.Ebenezer Nii-Armah Tackie<br \/>\n3.Hajia Mariam Dzifa Ibrahim<br \/>\n4.Prince Kwadzovie Wormenor<br \/>\n5.Opoku William Ahamadzie<\/p>\n<p>Delegates are trooping in in their numbers to participate in the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The elections are being held in some 157 constituencies. In 39 constituencies, incumbent MPs and other aspirants are going unopposed.<\/p>\n<p>The primaries have been suspended in some five constituencies including Asawase and Ellembelle, whilst the party is yet to open nominations in 74 constituencies.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>No phones near voting booths \u2013 NDC warns agents ahead of primaries<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Meanwhile, agents of the various parliamentary aspirants are not being allowed to carry\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2019\/08\/no-phones-near-voting-booths-ndc-warns-agents-ahead-of-primaries\/\">phones near booths<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0at the centres during the primaries.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_ad jeg_ad_article jnews_content_inline_ads \">\n<div class=\"ads-wrapper align-center \">\n<div class=\"ads_code\">\n<p>The voters will also not be allowed to carry phones when going to vote.<\/p>\n<p>The centres are also supposed to be campaign free zones, the party\u2019s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia had warned.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cNo agent shall be allowed to carry mobile phones to the booth. If you are a party agent, keep the phones away. We don\u2019t want you to have the opportunity to take pictures, just like the way somebody takes pictures while voting and circulates it on Whatsapp. At the same time, no voter will be allowed to carry a mobile phone to the polling booth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is prohibited for you to be canvasing for votes. No pictures or an effigy or parliamentary aspirants shall be allowed within 500 metres of the voting centre.
