Lil Nas X has had a quick catapult to music stardom this summer when he spent a record-breaking 19 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.<\/p>\n

He also made headlines when he chose to come out as gay during Pride Month, while at the height of his career.<\/p>\n

But the Panini artist was not so open about his relationship status when he appeared Monday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.<\/p>\n

When the talk show host asked if he was in a relationship at the moment, he offered a hesitant ‘somewhat.’<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old also discussed his decision to come out when he did: ‘Just knowing it was something I should have been done, but I was not in a position where I had to worry about family and friends and how they would react, I guess.<\/p>\n

‘But in the past year, I’m in a new level, so it doesn’t really matter, I guess. Also, how it would be good for the youngins who are listening to me right now, who are gonna have to go through stuff like this in the future, to know it’s alright.’<\/p>\n

He revealed that he’d only come out to his dad and sister earlier that month, ‘I guess to give them like a heads up.’<\/p>\n

Nas came out publicly on the last day of Pride Month, tweeting to his followers: ‘some of y\u2019all already know, some of y\u2019all don\u2019t care, some of y\u2019all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y\u2019all to listen closely to c7osure.’<\/p>\n

DeGeneres also managed to surprise Nas with a scare during his appearance, but not before he got suspicious.<\/p>\n

During their talk about his coming out, he stopped and asked: ‘Hold on, nobody’s in this box, no?’<\/p>\n
