AFCON 2019: TREZEGUET POWERS EGYPT TO VICTORY ON OPENING DAY

Egypt are of the mark in the AFCON with a decent win over Zimbabwe at the Cario International
Stadium.
Kasimpasa winger, Mohammed Trezeget’s 39th goal was enough for the host to maintain their record of
winning all their opening AFCON games in the last six editions.
It was an exciting game by both sides to set the tournament underway in the North African country.
Egypt were the better side in the first half; they came close to opening the scoring twice in the early
minutes but were denied on those occasions by Zimbabwean goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda.
After been put through by Ayman Ashraf, Mahmoud Trezeguet’s shot found the right button corner of the net to hand the Pharaohs the lead with 5 minutes left on
the clock for half time.
Liverpool star Mohammed Salah had quite a good night but was unlucky to see two of his efforst on goal
saved in the second.
Zimbabwe tried to fight their way back in the second half, but were kept at bay by the seven-time winners of
the tournament.
Egypt now lead Group A after the win today with their second game set for Wednesday against DR
Congo.
