Akwasi Appiah Names Stars First Team To Face Benin

Ghana’s Black Stars is billed to play her first game today against Benin at the 2019 edition of the Cup of Nations currently going on in Egypt.
Headcoach of the Black Stars Akwasi Appiah has paraded a strong squad to play The Squirrels of Benin. The competition has seen the phenomenon of the so-called minnows of African football playing their best against their mighty opponents, thereby raising the question as to whether their tag as minnows still remains relevant.
The following are the players to start the game against Benin at the Ismailia Stadium. The team had a familiarization walk at the Ismailia Stadium yesterday evening to test the pitch’s quality, which most of the players as well as the team officials, praised.
In post will be Richard Ofori, who has become the nation’s safest pair of hands. The wing backs are Andy Yiadom and Lumor Agbenynu, while the center defensive pair will see John Boye and Kasim Adams, ensuring the forwards of Benin don’t get any chance to put any ball past goalkeeper Ofori.
In midfield, Thomas Partey, and Mubarak Wakasu, will be supported on the flanks by Thomas Agyapong and Christian Atsu.
Upfront, we have Jordan Ayew as the arrowhead with support from skipper Dede Ayew.
Ghana’s leading goalscorer Asamoah Gyan, will be on the subs bench.
