Don’t Condemn All Nigerians – Nana Obiri Boahen

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has admonished Ghanaians to desist from condemning all Nigerians for all the bad reasons.

Speaking in an interview monitored by nsemgh.com, Obiri Boahen said it is wrong to generalize that all Nigerians are bad.

“It is wrong to generalize that all Nigerians are bad. We should not do that. I don’t agree with the situation where we want to close shops and businesses of Nigerians in Ghana. The fact that some one or two notorious Nigerians are engaged in certain untoward or illegal activities, doesn’t make all Nigerians bad. What is transpiring as regards the involvement of some Nigerians in some of the kidnap and robbery cases and other despicable cases, is unfortunate, but it doesn’t mean we should crucify all Nigerians “, he said.

The NPP scribe,Obiri Boahen, who is also a lawyer mentioned that it is part of the reasons former Prime Minister of Ghana from 1969 to 1972, Kofi Abrefa Busia introduced the Alien Compliance Order in 1969.

” Busia introduced the Alien Compliance Order in the 70s to regularize the stay of foreigners in Ghana. But it was misrepresented by the opposition then, but it would have have helped. The Ghana card we are introducing now was introduced in Ghana by Busia in the 70s. And it was to serve the same purpose we are clamouring for at present. By the Order, other nationals were urged to regularized their stay in the country, thus periodically the country could ascertain the number of foreigners in the country”, he added.

” There are deviants everywhere. What the Nigerian professor said was in bad taste. Encouraging Nigerians to paint Ghana black, was not proper”, he opined.

The revered lawyer advised Ghanaians to handle the crime irrespective of whether the culprits are Togolese, Ghanaians, Nigerians or whichever nationals. We don’t need to condemn all Nigerians because nit all of them are miscreants.
