UN Adopts President Akufo – Addo’s Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda For Africa
 
		
President Akufo – Addo’s ¨Ghana Beyond Aid¨ policy has attracted global attention as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has adopted for its policy direction for the entire African continent.
The adoption was manifested in the UNDP High – Level Dialogue with African influencers held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel, Thursday, the 7th of November, 2019 which was themed ,”Africa’s Money for African Development; A Future Beyond Aid”.
The high dialogue is seeking to explore how Africa can optimize the use of its own resources, creativity and innovation to future of development in Africa and how to capitalize on the implementation of the Africa co
Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), as well as the chances emerging from the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The event is first of it kind. And it features a profound reaction between a selected number of Africa’s political, traditional and business leaders. The leading voices in culture, entertainment, academia and media will also be part of the conversation.
The Director for Regional Bureau for Africa, Ahunna Eziakonwa, in her address to welcome and set scene for the participants indicated, President Akufo – Addo has clearly shown his commitment to the agenda to transform Africa and making it a reliant continent.
President Akufo – Addo at the meeting made known the subject for Ghana and Africa Beyond Aid, is one that he is passionate about. He noted that the theme for the meeting is the challenge of the current African generation and it is a call to change the economic structures, attitudes and above all change our mind set towards Africa’s position in the world.
“When I talk about Ghana and Africa Beyond Aid, I am insisting we use our resources to build robust economies that will propel us into the likes of the developed countries of the world. I am simply insisting we stop believing that our deliverance will come from benefactors. I am insisting again we take our fate in our own hands and work to bring us to where we do not look for or expect charity”. The President stated.
President Akufo – Addo hinted that beginning from 2021 crop season of cocoa production in Ghana and Ivory Coast, farmers in the initial deals to sell cocoa with a living income premium of $400 a tonne added to the price, in a bid to reform the e way global cocoa is priced. ” A Living Income Deferential (LID) $400 per tonne will be paid to farmers for all categories of cocoa crop season when our two count

Countries start to apply a new mechanism for the scale of cocoa at $2,6000 per tonne”. President Akufo -Addo said.
“The policy has founded support even from major chocolate producers like Mars, who acknowledge the need to make the industry sustainable”. The President added.
It is expected the High Level Dialogue will contribute ideas for implementation of the new AfCFTA Resource Center, triggers useful debates and discussions about evolving governat models which support African development and transformation.
The program was designed in four sessions. That is the Presidential session with African Influencers, the Money Dialogue and Traditional Leaders’ Forum. There was also four parallel sessions and the Conference Dinner, featuring the ” Platform Possibilities “.
