“Men are to Women and not any other way” – Kenyan President rejects LGBT

President of Kenya, William Ruto, has made his country’s position clear on same-sex relationship, stating categorically that his country will stick to how their customs, traditions and to what the 2010 Constitution says about marriages and relationships.

Ruto praised Kenya’s Constitution as one of the most progressive documents for its scope regarding the rights of people as enshrined in it, adding that his people will respect all rights to the extent that they are legal.

In an interview with a German media outfit earlier this week, Ruto stressed that his country dont have problems with how marriage is seen in other countries or how it is interpreted in other jurisdictions.

“In Kenya, the only understanding of relationships around marriage is around men marrying women, that is the context of relationship that exist in Kenya and is provided for in our Constitution”

“It (same-sex marriage) can happen elsewhere, we have no issues with people celebrating their issues in America and in other countries, that is their choosing,” he said touching on the recently passed anti same-sex law in Uganda.

“In Kenya, we have taken our position, the position of the Constitution, the position of the law as it is today, if that is what they (Ugandans) want to do, we can not dictate to the Germans or the French or the Americans or Ugandans if that s what they want to do”.

“That is theirs to do,for us as a country, we have taken our position that is informed by our culture, our tradition, our Constitution and our laws,” he stressed
