2026 World Cup qualifiers: The aim is to qualify – Asamoah Gyan on Ghana’s group
Asamoah Gyan, who is Africa’s leading World Cup goalscorer, and former Black Stars captain says Ghana’s focus is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
According to Gyan, Ghana has been consistent in qualifying for world cups since it made its first qualification in 2006 expect 2018.
Ghana has been grouped with Mali, Central African Republic, Comoros, Madagascar, and Chad.
To qualify for the 2026 world cup, Ghana has to top Group I but if the team fails to be on top of the group, we should be among the top four runners-up in the group stage.
The four teams will play a mini-tournament to have a winner. The winner then plays an intercontinental play-off to secure a place for the Mundia
‘Since 2006 when we first qualified, we’ve been consistent except in 2018. It looks like we’re getting used to the World Cup. Expectations are high back home but the hope is that we’ll qualify.” Gyan said at Thursday draw.
