Godfred Dame Accuses New Attorney General of Falsehood in Unibank, Beige Cases

Former Attorney General of Ghana, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has launched a sharp rebuke against the current Attorney General, accusing him of peddling falsehoods in relation to the ongoing Unibank and Beige Capital prosecutions.

In a statement released earlier this week, Dame expressed concern over what he described as a “deliberate distortion of facts” by the new legal leadership. According to Dame, the recent commentary from the Attorney General’s office on the recovery strategy and legal interpretation of the financial sector cleanup misrepresents the efforts and intentions of the previous administration.

“I find it regrettable that my successor would choose to mislead the public on such a critical national issue,” Dame said. He insisted that his approach was based on legal merit and fairness, and accused the current office of politicizing sensitive matters.

The statement has sparked debate within legal and political circles, with analysts calling for greater transparency and professionalism in managing the high-profile financial cases.

As tensions rise, observers await an official response from the Attorney General’s office. The Unibank and Beige Capital cases remain central to Ghana’s broader efforts to restore trust in the banking sector following the 2017–2019 financial cleanup.
