Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has backed the Black Stars to secure a place at the World Cup in 2026 by finishing the qualifiers on a positive note.

The four-time African champions will be embarking on a fifth appearance at the global showpiece by finishing top of Group I in the qualifiers.

Ghana lead the group and could seal a place at the tournament with victory over the Central African Republic on Wednesday should results in other games favour the West Africans. Second-place Comoros will battle it out with third-place Madagascar in the other match of the group.

Gyan believes there will be pressure on the team, but expects the Black Stars to emerge successful.

“We are very close. The players have their destiny in their hands. They have done all the work and must add the finishing touch. They should go out, play their hearts out and get the win,” he told 3 Sports.

“Some games come with good pressure and keep you on your toes. This is one of those games. I feel there is a bit of pressure, but that is normal. Some of the players did it in 2022 and I am sure they can handle it.”

The Black Stars will end their qualifiers with a home game against Comoros on October 12 in Accra.
